Ludhiana police have advised city residents against hiring modified
limousine cars, saying that these vehicles had been modified in
violation of the Central Motor Vehicle Act.
On orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the district
transport office and the traffic wing of Ludhiana police have been
tracing such vehicles to cancel their registration.
On Saturday, assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Dhruman
Nimbale said these vehicles are likely to be impounded and, if such a
vehicle is challaned during a marriage, celebration would likely be cut
short.
Given the opulence connected with them, modified limousine cars have
become routine at marriages in the district. Several people in the
district had jumped in to make a profit out of the business opportunity
and modified vehicles to look like Limousine cars, violating the Central
Motor Vehicle Act.
People ended up paying Rs. 15,000 a
day to hire such vehicles. ACP (traffic) Dhruman Nimbale appealed to the
people to avoid hiring such vehicles. “It would only inconvenience them
if such a vehicle is impounded during a marriage ceremony. We don't
want that do happen,” he said.
